Remember all the hype awhile back regarding snap bracelets? We heard all kinds of urban rumors and myths involving suicides to ritualized sexual behavior and for the life of me I can't sort it all out even now!
The snap bracelet that this entry pertains to is of the high tech variety that I can't wait to try. It's actually more of an electronic gadget than a bracelet (nope, it doesn't have anything to do with house arrest so relax).
This bracelet called Snap is an MP3 player that is worn on the wrist (thus the term bracelet) which in and of itself might not be that cool, except that the Snap bracelet can be controlled with gestures the user makes with their hand and audio feedback, not by using traditional knobs or buttons. This means that in circumstances where the usual means of operation might prove difficult or darn near impossible, flexing the wrist will get the job done and let you know the outcome via the wireless earbuds. Get this, the earbuds and MP3 player communicate with each other by no other transmission medium than the user's own skin making wires completely unnecessary and radio interference a thing of the past!
You would load your songs wirelessly via wi-fi and there you have it! This whole concept is so streamlined and cool and I wish I could say the same for the look of the snap bracelet. The trade-off for all the technology available at the flick of your wrist is that the cover for all those electronics, the bracelet, is clunky. The picture that I saw doesn't make me categorize the snap bracelet as cutting edge fashion. I think that until they are able to scale down and minimize the size of the snap bracelet, I'll continue to wear my silver and gold lo-tech jewelry and enjoy my tunes that are on my old-fashioned wired Ipod.
If they can get this electronic snap bracelet down to the size of a medium sized bangle, I'll be the first in line to SNAP it up!
As a side note, I shopped around for something comparable and came up with a wrist watch that is a recorder/MP3 player that's marketed as all things as SpyGear!
It's not wireless and it does look more like a man's device, but it stores 256 megabytes and you can listen to 5 hours of music and it's so much smaller than the wireless snap bracelet. Plus it tells you the time!
